LUXURY sleepwear and lingerie company wins top Business award in Worcestershire

‘Penny and a Pearl’, which offers customers handcrafted, sew your own kits, was crowned the winner of this year’s WINN ‘Make It Happen Challenge.

The Worcestershire based business is run by University of Worcestershire student Imogen Mounement, who will now receive a package of prizes worth £15,000.

Imogen will also receive support from sponsors with finance, business planning, social media support, website development, crowdfunding, co-working space within The Kiln and more.

The strength of the market research carried out, and the sense of where the business was positioning itself couldn’t be praised highly enough by judges, who were immediately impressed.

Imogen will be looking to emulate the success of last year’s winner Nikki Hollier, with her Border In A Box idea. Nikki has had many highlights since winning the challenge last year, but one that stood out for her personally, was showing her border design at BBC Gardeners’ World Live, as it was a real confidence boost.

Imogen had already received a financial boost after applying for and receiving the Worcester City Council Start Up Grant and will be building her business during her final year at the University of Worcester.

Imogen said: "I still can't really believe I have won. I'm incredibly grateful to WINN for this fantastic opportunity and I'm so excited to start working with everyone involved in the project.

"This will be revolutionary for my business. The fantastic prize and the amount of support available will be invaluable in taking my business to the next step."

Councillor Ken Pollock, cabinet member with responsibility for economy and infrastructure said: “I’d like to congratulate Imogen on winning this award, and I’d like to wish her every success in the future.

"I still can't really believe I have won. I'm incredibly grateful to WINN for this fantastic opportunity and I'm so excited to start working with everyone involved in the project."

"The Make It Happen Challenge is one of many great initiatives that the WINN project provides to help promote and support the success of small businesses across Worcestershire.

"Worcestershire is one of the fastest growing local economies in the country. It is a fantastic place to begin your business journey, with lots of positives to offer to potential clients, such as a great central location and good transport links.”

The judging day was held at Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, where our 10 sponsors met to judge the applications.
